This initiative is a collaborative effort driven by passionate female students and alumnae from the University of California, Berkeley (affectionately known as “Cal Girls”). Our mission is to engage directly with the local community in Karim Park, Lahore, through a series of educational, cultural, and community service activities. We believe in the power of direct human connection and shared experiences to foster global understanding, break down stereotypes, and cultivate empathy.
Our Vision: To create lasting bonds of friendship and cooperation between our Berkeley community and the citizens of Lahore, empowering local individuals through shared knowledge and celebrating cultural diversity.
Our Mission: To facilitate meaningful interactions, offer educational support, participate in local community projects, and provide a platform for cultural exchange within Karim Park, Lahore, fostering mutual growth and understanding.
Our Activities & Engagement
Through regular visits and focused programs, the Cal Girls engage in a variety of activities designed to benefit both the Berkeley students/alumnae and the Karim Park community:
- Educational Workshops: Covering topics such as basic English language proficiency, digital literacy, environmental awareness, and health & hygiene, tailored to the needs and interests of local youth and adults.
- Skill-Building Sessions: Introducing vocational skills, creative arts, or entrepreneurship basics to empower local women and young adults.
- Cultural Exchange Programs: Sharing traditions, stories, music, and food from both Pakistani and American cultures, fostering appreciation and understanding of diverse heritages.
- Community Service Projects: Collaborating with local residents on park beautification, organizing clean-up drives, or participating in local outreach initiatives.
- Mentorship & Empowerment: Providing informal mentorship to young girls and women, encouraging leadership, education, and personal development.
- Shared Recreational Activities: Engaging in sports, games, and other recreational pastimes within the park to build rapport and enjoyment.
